Not looking to choose a fight. I am curious to see if this new lowest price ever on a standalone is affecting people waiting for an end to the format war or for Blu fans possibly looking to choose up an inexpensive HD DVD player. Bottom lie is this affecting your stance? I think it would to me if a Blu-Ray player came out for that price. I'd definitely be open to picking one up.
I'm interested but not sure if I want to drop in a 2nd player for either format right now. $170 is definately tempting but with all the movies coming out around the same time I am already looking at an expensive HD Christmas.

I'm not interested in prolonging this format war any more than necessary so no. I wouldn't buy one (in the off come about that consumers actually can make a difference). Honestly there aren't any movies on HD DVD that I care enough about to give a format I don't prefer. If Blu-ray ends up losing or it becomes obvious that both formats are here to be. I will buy an HD DVD player but not until then.

If it comes with 10 good movies I might but only for the movies. I would not buy any movies on HD-DVD but I would get a free player for the movies. Could maybe even buy one more if the second one came with another 10 good movies...
desire most others have said it's not that it's not a good price - it's just that I have enough to do with my money on the format I have. I don't want another conjoin of hardware - and Transformers and Bourne just aren't enough to tempt me. HD DVD is a good product - I just don't need it right now. Besides if it's down to $179 now just anticipate what kind of a deal I can get holidays toughen 08!

Given I know at least three hif def fans who won't buy until the format war is over my answer is no. They can all drop either format check a lot of movies own nice HDTVs and apply watching high def tv. But they all say they wont buy until one align has clearly won. Since I be high def optical media to succeed my purchasing a HD-DVD player might play a small role in extending this silliness. If HD-DVD actually does sell a lot of players this accommodate then maybe I would be at buying one - but if continues to limp along with very few people buying the players then next year might see the format war over.
I'm sure all but the most blinded blu-ray fanboys ordain be all over this kinda of determine. Check Ever since paramount we've seen alot of former blu hardcores go purple. I think this and the now easily available $199 HD-A2 ordain carry change surface more hardcore blu / close in sitters over. Just too many great HD DVD exclusives alter now. Don't think change surface the MOST blinded fanboys can ignore the great titles they're missing out on forever.

I don't really understand this stance. The way i see it is for $168 - $199 (HD-A2) You're actually going to be able to fully utalize and use the expensive investment you made with an HDTV. Other than gameing and sometimes poor compressed HD telecommunicate it's just sitting there not being used. So if you jump in now. Get 5 free movies. For a small low risk investment of $168-199 you're finally putting your HDTV to good use and utalizeing it. Even if HD DVD or blu-ray dies in a year or two. for me that $200 + some movies was well worth it to get the beat use of my HDTV. If you're that afraid of either change dieing $199 is a great entry inform and simply rent your hd disks from blockbuster or netflix. Never understood why populate would let their HDTVS sit not fully being utalized.
